The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) in the Burnet Emergency Department (ED) works part-time, 24 hours per week, on the night shift. This role is responsible for providing approved patient care and assisting with interventions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The PCA will also supervise and assist patients with activities of daily living, offer assistance to co-workers, use crisis control techniques, and assist with patient transport and 1-on-1 observation as needed. A key aspect of this role is demonstrating Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors, reporting patient status changes, completing timely documentation, seeking guidance when needed, and discussing concerns with leadership. The PCA also plays a role in maintaining a safe and organized environment, complying with infection control and safety procedures, responding to patient alarms with urgency, answering the telephone according to etiquette, assembling charts, ordering supplies, and potentially assisting with new employee orientation and training.
