About The Position

The medical acute care unit has twenty-five-beds for patients, and is located in Boston, MA. A majority of patients are admitted directly from the Emergency Department and have single or multi-system problems including, but not exclusively, alterations in gas exchange, airway clearance, cardiac function, renal function, nutrition, hepatic function, skin integrity and mental states. Ideal applicants seeking part-time permanent employment will be strongly considered for this role.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
  • Basic Life Support [BLS] Certified
  • Medical Assistant [National Certification]
  • Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician [National Certification]
  • Experience working in patient care/elder care 0-1 year preferred
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong patient/customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Proficient in computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy.
  • Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.
  • Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding, as needed.
  • Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
  • Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
  • Assists with admitting and discharging patients.
  • Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.
  • Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively.
  • Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.
  • Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
