About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) supports patient care in the Intensive Care Unit in collaboration with the RN. The role includes responding to patient call lights and rounding, obtaining vital signs, assisting with personal hygiene, transporting patients, maintaining a clean and uncluttered patient-room environment, and observing patients’ condition and progress toward defined outcomes. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Meet one of the following: hold Certified Nursing Assistant certification; have six months of experience as a Patient Care Assistant or Nurse Technician in an acute care setting; have completed one clinical semester in nursing school; or complete the MHSM PCA training program upon hire.
Obtain BCLS certification within one week of hire.
Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups representing diverse perspectives.
Articulate and demonstrate commitment to the organization's philosophy, values, mission, and vision.

Responsibilities

Respond to patient call lights and assist patients or provide assistance through rounding.
Obtain patient vital signs.
Provide or assist patients with personal hygiene, including showers, oral hygiene, and dressing or undressing.
Transport patients as needed for procedures, transfers, or discharge.
Maintain a clean and uncluttered environment in patient rooms.
Observe patients’ condition and progress, or lack of progress, toward defined outcomes in collaboration with the RN.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Deliver patient care based on standards of care, standards of practice, and organizational policies and procedures in collaboration with the RN.
