About The Position

This is a Full Time position working 12-hour shifts in the Telemetry Department at Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. The Patient Care Assistant II will support patients with daily living activities, deliver basic nursing care, and help maintain a safe environment under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. A key responsibility includes monitoring telemetry equipment, observing rhythm strips, recognizing alarms, and alerting nurses to changes such as arrhythmias or abnormal heart rates. The role also involves assisting with lead and wire care, ensuring monitor accuracy, troubleshooting issues, documenting patient information, reporting abnormal findings, and providing emotional reassurance to patients being monitored for heart conditions.

Requirements

  • Current Certification in Patient Care required (M.A. / CNA / EMT / Paramedic / Patient Care Tech, etc.)
  • Current BLS (AHA) within 30 days of hire and maintain current
  • Possesses knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Current Dysrhythmia Interpretation Certificate upon hire and maintain current
  • Six months previous experience as Monitor Technician, preferred
  • Current Phlebotomy certification upon hire, preferred
  • Current EKG certification upon hire, preferred
  • Minimum six months previous experience in an acute care hospital or physician’s office, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support patients with daily living activities
  • Deliver basic nursing care

  • Assist with bathing, feeding, toileting, repositioning
  • Collect specimens
  • Transport patients while maintaining monitoring connections
  • Monitor telemetry equipment
  • Observe rhythm strips

  • Alert nurses to changes such as arrhythmias or abnormal heart rates
  • Assist with lead and wire care
  • Replace or secure connections
  • Ensure monitors stay accurate
  • Troubleshoot any issues that may interrupt monitoring
  • Document patient activities and vital information in charts
  • Report abnormal findings quickly
  • Offer emotional reassurance to reduce anxiety in patients being monitored for heart conditions
