About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant II works in Emergency Services at Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas, on night shifts consisting of 12-hour shifts. The role supports patients with activities of daily living and mobility, helps maintain a safe and clean care environment, and assists with patient monitoring and transport. Some duties, such as feeding patients or helping with wound care, may be performed as needed and under the direction of an RN.

Requirements

Current certification in patient care, such as M.A., CNA, EMT, Paramedic, or Patient Care Tech.
Current BLS certification from the AHA within 30 days of hire and maintained as current.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

Current Dysrhythmia Interpretation Certificate upon hire and maintained as current.
Six months of previous experience as a Monitor Technician.
Current Phlebotomy certification upon hire.
Current EKG certification upon hire.
At least six months of previous experience in an acute care hospital or physician’s office.

Responsibilities

Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, and toileting.
Help patients with mobility, including turning, repositioning, and transferring, to help prevent skin breakdown.
Feed patients who need assistance and monitor intake and output as needed.
Take and record vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
Observe and report changes in patients’ conditions to nurses.
Help with wound care under the direction of an RN, as needed.
Stock and maintain supplies in patient rooms and help keep the environment clean and safe.
Assist with transporting patients within the hospital.
