About The Position
This role is for a Patient Care Assistant II in the Medical Surgical department at Harlingen Medical Center. The position is full-time, working 12-hour night shifts. The primary focus is on assisting patients with daily living activities, mobility, monitoring vital signs, assisting with basic care, maintaining a clean environment, and transporting patients.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current Certification in Patient Care required (M.A. / CNA / EMT / Paramedic / Patient Care Tech, etc.)
- Current BLS (AHA) within 30 days of hire and maintain current
- Possesses knowledge of Medical Terminology
Nice To Haves
- Current Dysrhythmia Interpretation Certificate upon hire and maintain current
- Six months previous experience as Monitor Technician
- Current Phlebotomy certification upon hire
- Current EKG certification upon hire
- Minimum six months previous experience in an acute care hospital or physician’s office
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) like bathing, dressing, and toileting
- Help with mobility, including turning, repositioning, and transferring patients to prevent skin breakdown
- Feed patients who need assistance and monitor intake/output
- Take and record vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration)
- Observe and report changes in a patient’s condition to nurses
- Help with wound care under the direction of an RN
- Stock and maintain supplies in patient rooms
- Ensure the environment stays clean and safe
- Assist in transporting patients within the hospital
