About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant I is a Part Time, Regular position working 2:30-7pm at Northpointe Imaging Center. The primary goal is to assist radiologists and technologists in achieving the highest quality studies and ensuring efficient workflow within the department. This role requires the ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities with constant interruptions, and maintain a high level of organization to meet deadlines. The position involves interaction with radiologists, other departments, patients, family members, and outside contacts, demanding excellent written, verbal, and personal communication skills, tact, diplomacy, and strict confidentiality. Decision-making regarding daily work priorities will be based on company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • One year minimum experience in the medical field.
  • Must be able to pass a background check required by RCW 43.43.830-840 to work with children under the age of 16, developmentally disabled persons or vulnerable adults.
  • New employees will be checked against the LIST OF EXCLUDED INDIVIDUALS provided by the Department of Health & Human Services, Office of the Inspector General (OIG). Employees must not be included on this list.
  • Eligible employees must be able to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
  • Valid state driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Honest, pleasant manner and good personal hygiene.
  • Free of alcohol and drug abuse.

Nice To Haves

  • Anatomy and medical terminology preferred.
  • Medical office experience preferred.
  • Understanding of MRI procedures to be read by radiologist preferred.
  • Experience with the following computer applications is highly desired: Outlook; Kronos; Replicon; Imagecast; Stentor; IDXterm; Flowcast; Allscripts; Intranet, EPIC and Medicalis.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to exam rooms and instruct patients on appropriate preparation for exams.
  • Maintain clean and well-stocked exam and dressing rooms.
  • Pull previous studies and reports.
  • Assist the scheduling department with scheduling patients and call backs as needed.
  • Assist Technologists with patients as needed.
  • Interact with Nursing, Front Office Core, and Reading Room Assistants to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Maintain a clean scan room environment.
  • Use required computer programs proficiently.
  • May transport patients to/from inpatient departments or Emergency Room to/from Inland Imaging department.
  • Be knowledgeable of hospital codes and infection status (if applicable).
  • Prepare and setup Arthrogram injection tray (Northpointe Location Only).
  • Assist X-ray with preparing patients for exams when needed (Northpointe Location Only).
  • Prepare billing slips for NWOS billing office to ensure accurate CPT code was selected (NWO Location Only).
  • Deliver billing slips to 4th floor billing office (NWO Location Only).
  • Make reminder calls for next day’s MRI appointments (NWO Location Only).
  • Send messages of scheduled appointments to practice coordinators through the NWOS e-Medsys system (NWO Location Only).
  • Process new orders submitted by NWOS office for scheduling, ensuring order completeness and authorization (NWO Location Only).
  • Send and label orders with comments to the Medicalis Worklist for scheduler to call (NWO Location Only).
  • Review old orders in Insurance pending folders for Medicalis worklist and request updates on authorization process through e-Medsys as needed (NWO Location Only).
  • Complete paperwork for biopsies and locs, lab work for specimens, consent forms, and discharge instructions (SHIC Location Only).
  • Consult patient's history and physical and fill out biopsy procedure paperwork under the direction of the technologist and nurse (SHIC Location Only).
  • Fill out paperwork for PAML (laboratory paperwork to process the specimen) (SHIC Location Only).
  • Deliver specimens to the lab (SHIC Location Only).
  • Provide one-on-one patient support before, during, and after a breast procedure by screening the patient, assisting with changing clothes, escorting for IV placement, helping to position the patient on the biopsy table, staying with the patient after first set of images are obtained, communicating timelines and expectations to the patient, and remaining in constant presence with the patient from beginning of procedure to discharge (SHIC Location Only).
  • Assist in setting up and cleaning up the MR Room, biopsy tray, biopsy table, and biopsy machine (SHIC Location Only).
  • Assist with patient care after procedure by holding pressure until bleeding has stopped, dressing incision, escorting patient to and from Mammogram Department and giving report of patient’s condition and tolerance to the procedure to the mammography technologist, and helping patient dress post procedure (SHIC Location Only).
  • Keep a QA spreadsheet regarding any complications with the Breast Biopsy table or biopsy equipment (SHIC Location Only).
  • Keep records of complications with equipment and/or procedure (SHIC Location Only).
  • Assist nurses with unexpected needs (HFIC MRI Extremity Location Only).
  • Participate in taking patient vital signs, under the direct supervision of the Nursing Staff (HFIC MRI Extremity Location Only).
  • Occasionally assist sedated patients after their procedure (HFIC MRI Extremity Location Only).
  • Obtain patient meals and snacks as necessary (HFIC MRI Extremity Location Only).
  • Escort patients from waiting room to dressing room prior to nurse assessment (HFIC MRI Extremity Location Only).
  • Manage laundry (HFIC MRI Extremity Location Only).
  • Stock supplies (HFIC MRI Extremity Location Only).
  • Clean and dress stretchers (HFIC MRI Extremity Location Only).
  • Help maintain adequate levels of nursing supplies (HFIC MRI Extremity Location Only).
  • May be required to complete a course in back safety prior to working with patients.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality within Inland Imaging companies and Inland’s customers.
  • Demonstrates self-directed learning and participation in continuing education through professional journals, approved seminars, etc.
  • Ability to consider individual needs in communication with and assessment and treatment of patients of all ages.
  • Adheres to departmental standards and personnel policies by demonstrating professional demeanor in conduct and appearance.
