The PCA must understand principles of growth and development across the lifespan and apply age-specific care needs. Effective communication of patient status and delegated tasks is essential. This position involves flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends. The Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Mayo Clinic Arizona specializes in high-acuity cardiovascular and thoracic patient care, with a 24/7 resource availability and an expanding 46-bed unit. The unit cares for a variety of cardiac patients, including those with Congestive Heart Failure, CV Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Heart Transplant, Pulmonary Hypertension, Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD), Pulmonary Artery Catheters, Ultrafiltration, Post Cardiac Procedures, Titratable Medications, and Arterial Lines. Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date.
- Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
Nice To Haves
- Completion of Block 1 in Nursing OR Medical Assistant (MA) OR Nursing Assistant (NA) OR 6 months of experience in the healthcare setting within the last year.
Responsibilities
- Assists nursing staff with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care.
- Supports and complements nursing practice under the supervision of a registered nurse.
- Carries out designated skills within the functions of a certified nursing assistant.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development through the life span.
- Appropriately interprets information relative to the patient's age-specific needs.
- Communicates data reflective of the patient's status and delegated tasks/functions.
