Helps patients by transporting them into, around, and out of the health care organization. Warmly greet patients and visitors, providing directions to facilities and escorting members or visitors when necessary. Transports patients by assisting them from their vehicles (do not lift patients from their vehicles). Utilizes proper body mechanics when lifting and transferring patients to and from wheelchairs. Responds to all transport requests with a sense of urgency. Ensures the safe, timely and accurate transport of patients to their destination to include bringing the proper requested equipment if necessary. Comforts patients and their families by being attentive, offering support and encouragement, being punctual and attentive to appointment schedules, demonstrating caring and cultural sensitivity. Only engages in appropriate conversation involving the patient. Notifies nursing personnel, clinician, technician or reception upon arrival for patient. Alerts nursing staff immediately to any signs of patient distress or equipment malfunctions. Maintains safe, secure and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with federal and state legal regulations. Collects and returns wheelchairs to the proper holding areas. Maintains equipment and reports equipment needing repairs. Disinfects transport equipment before and after use. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational and training opportunities. Assist with all other duties as assigned. Introduce self and your role. Be knowledgeable about your job so that you can serve others effectively. Help others, offering to assist (Ask, how may I help you?). Do your share. Do what you say you will do and take action, follow through. Be willing to pitch in and help. Let your patients, customers and co-workers know what they can expect from you and follow through. Be an active listener (make eye contact, validate). Address customers as Mr., Mrs., or Ms. until invited to do otherwise. Never use terms of endearment such as hon, dear, sweetie, etc. Be accountable for your work. Speak clearly and use understandable language (avoid medical jargon or slang). Summarize key information and provide written materials whenever possible. Validate to ensure understanding. Demonstrate appropriate body language and tone of voice. Answer all phone calls with a salutation, introduction and offer to assist (Good afternoon, Desert Oasis Healthcare or Family Hospice Care, this is (your name), how may I help you?). Speak positively about your work, co-workers and Desert Oasis Healthcare and Family Hospice Care. Avoid gossip and negativity. Offer to answer any additional questions that the person, patient or customer may have. Inform patients and co-workers of how and when to contact you under normal circumstances (phone number, email, a help line, Immediate Care, etc.) or when unforeseen issues arise.
