About The Position

The Patient and Family Centered Care Lead supports the Children’s Hospital by overseeing the Patient and Family Centered Care team to ensure that patients and their families receive high-quality care. This is a dynamic position that plans and implements programs and services to meet the needs identified for clinical populations, liaisons with Foundation staff to enhance funding and programmatic support, oversees daily operations of the Patient and Family Centered Care team, and is responsible for the day-to-day patient interactions of their discipline (i.e. School Intervention, Child Life, Project Management, etc.).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Child Life, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary Education or Secondary Education, Psychology, Social Work or a related field
  • Obtain Basic Life Support Certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Four (4) years work experience with children and families.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Child Life Development, Child Life, Education, Psychology, Social Work or related field preferred.
  • Child Life Specialist Certification or Current, Professional Teaching licensure in the State of West Virginia.
  • Professional experience in a children’s hospital environment.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and child ages.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the daily duties and direct patient interactions of Certified Child Life Specialist, Pediatric Patient and Family Support Specialist, School Intervention Specialist, or Patient and Family Centered Care Project Manager are satisfied.
  • Functions as a staff role model by promoting cooperative problem solving, individual and group goal orientation, appropriate delegation of departmental activities and fostering team building through individual coaching and counseling, regular staff meetings, annual performance appraisals, and active participation in the activities of the department.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing activities that promote positive coping, developmental stimulation, and a sense of normalcy for pediatric patients.
  • Lead and mentor the Patient and Family Centered Care team to promote a supportive and collaborative team environment.
  • Ensure smooth communication and collaboration across the team. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities, interventions, and patient interactions for reporting purposes. Track and report key program metrics, including resource usage and outcomes. Compile and submit data to department leadership.
  • Participates in community events to provide awareness/education of the Patient and Family Centered Care programs.
  • Prepares and gives presentations to various levels of staff, management, senior leadership, etc. at the organization.
  • Research and promote innovative opportunities to enhance the Patient and Family Centered Care programs at WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s.
  • Coordinates normalization activities for patients (holiday celebrations, entertainment, visiting groups and community recreational activities) in collaboration with Child Life Assistant Lead.
  • Coordinates newsletter development for Patient and Family Centered Care teams and provide strategic updates to leadership and Development and Marketing team.
  • Assist Development team in grant applications and investigate additional funding sources for Patient and Family Centered Care teams.
  • Participates and/or initiates studies which advance the mission and goals of WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s.
  • Serves as a resource for state-wide outreach and education regarding Patient and Family Centered Care Programs (ie speaking at conferences, school systems, and local clinics).
  • Evaluates departmental activities and program expenditures, continually making recommendations and adjustments for improvement.
  • Maintains affiliation and networks with related professional organizations.
  • Provides guidance and instruction to interns, volunteers and shadowing opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
