About The Position

A patient ambassador enhances the patient experience by providing non-medical support, acting as a liaison, and offering comfort, often bridging gaps between patients, families, and staff. Their roles range from bedside companionship (reading, bringing blankets) to administrative help (restocking supplies, answering calls) and patient feedback gathering, aiming to improve satisfaction and create a more positive, human-centered environment. Patient ambassadors do not provide medical care, administer medication, or make diagnoses.

Requirements

  • Must be a former patient in some programs to share stories and support others.

Responsibilities

  • Offering emotional support, reading materials, blankets, and generally making patients feel more at ease.
  • Helping patients and visitors find their way, answering general questions, and directing them to appropriate staff.
  • Relaying patient needs and concerns to nurses and other medical staff, and sometimes mediating conflicts.
  • Restocking supplies, answering phone calls, and assisting nurses with non-clinical tasks.
  • Conducting patient interviews, gathering feedback, and helping develop action plans to boost satisfaction.
  • In some programs, former patients become ambassadors to share their stories and support others with similar conditions.
