About The Position

The Patient Access Representative serves as the first point of contact for patients, delivering a high level of customer service while ensuring accurate registration and account setup. This role is responsible for collecting and verifying patient demographic and insurance information, facilitating financial discussions, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced healthcare environment. This position works collaboratively with clinical and administrative teams to support efficient patient flow and overall operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Strong customer service and communication skills with a patient-centered approach
  • High attention to detail with accuracy in data entry and documentation
  • Ability to multitask effectively and manage work queues in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of and adherence to healthcare regulations including HIPAA, EMTALA, and CMS requirements
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Familiarity with infection prevention protocols and proper use of PPE
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate across departments
  • Participation in safety initiatives and emergency preparedness procedures

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree in Healthcare, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Patient Access, Registration, or a healthcare business office setting
  • At least 1 year of experience working with Epic or similar electronic health record systems

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and provide exceptional customer service throughout the registration and intake process
  • Verify patient identity and accurately collect demographic, insurance, and billing information
  • Complete patient registrations, including issuing armbands and coordinating bedside registration as needed
  • Educate patients on insurance benefits, financial responsibilities, and available resources
  • Process physician orders, manage work queues, and ensure timely and accurate documentation for billing readiness
  • Obtain required consents, signatures, and regulatory documentation in compliance with organizational standards
  • Secure and document patient valuables in accordance with established procedures
  • Escort or direct patients to appropriate service areas within the facility
  • Collaborate with clinical and support staff to ensure efficient patient flow and a positive patient experience
  • Maintain accurate account records while ensuring data integrity and compliance with documentation standards
