About The Position

The Patient Accounts Representative is responsible for the effective and creative use of proven billing follow-up techniques, and self-directed initiative, to bill and collect payments and resolve outstanding account balances. This key member of the Revenue Cycle team is a problem-solver who enjoys communicating with patients, providing information, resolving complaints, and accepting payments. The Patient Accounts Representative is the subject matter expert for handling payment options, denials, rejections, and claims resubmission. Patient Accounts Representatives are required to deliver quality customer service to patients as well as internal organizational customers. Compensation is dependent on skills and experience.

Requirements

  • Completion of a program or technical school for Billing preferred and / or 1 – 2 years of related billing experience in the medical and/or dental setting; equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Interpretation of insurance coverage plan, co-payments and deductible schedules and payment plans.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical and other complex documents.
  • Ability to write routine correspondence such as letters and memos.
  • Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to internal and/or external clients.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions utilizing the HealthPoint Lean Management System.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction.
  • Constructive thinking and alternative short- to long- term solutions must be considered. Action plans must be developed and implemented.
  • Possesses basic operating knowledge of computers.
  • Beginning level of Word, Excel and Outlook required.
  • Proof of vaccination for COVID-19 is required, prior to start. HealthPoint does not accept the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine as proof of vaccination. If you have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, we ask that you provide documentation demonstrating proof of an alternate COVID vaccine or vaccine series.
  • All new employees are also required to show proof of immunizations and/or immunity to MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varicella, annual Influenza and TB QuantiFERON Gold Titer.
  • Additionally, if you work in a HealthPoint clinic, Tdap (within last 10 years) is required.
  • Hepatitis B. is required for clinical employees with potential exposure to blood/blood products.
  • All immunizations are a condition of employment.
  • Upon hire, employees must provide proof of their immunizations and/or immune titer results prior to starting or no later than their fifth (5) business day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • EPIC experience preferred.
  • CPT, ICD-10, HCPCs and CHCS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review, correct, and re-bill or appeal insurance claim denials and rejections according to established guidelines.
  • Read and process insurance Explanation of Benefits (EOB).
  • Communicate with patients and insurance companies over the phone in a non-combative and professional manner.
  • Appropriately document, post, and report payment and denial information.
  • Respond to patient and clinic staff inquiries, disputes, and complaints regarding patient accounts.
  • Manage credit balances for both patient and insurance overpayments and issue refunds in a timely manner.
  • Manage correspondence received from payers.
  • Make telephone or letter contact with patients and payers who have balances with no payment.
  • Maintain a relationship with our collection agency and work together to find the best solution for patients.
  • Assist the Revenue Integrity Supervisor in troubleshooting and problem-solving by participating in process improvement projects utilizing the HealthPoint Lean Management System.
  • Assist the Revenue Integrity Supervisor with on-the-floor training as needed.
  • Knowledge of the No Surprises Act and Good Faith Estimates.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and manager.
  • Maintain good attendance, be punctual, and work the full scheduled shift as a condition of employment.
