About The Position

Assists patients and families with billing inquiries, resolves disputes, and collects payments for hospital services. This role involves addressing concerns, communicating with patients about billing and payment options, negotiating payment arrangements, and helping families obtain financial assistance. The representative will also collaborate with collection agencies, insurance companies, and internal departments to collect payments, process returned mail (including skip tracing and contacting doctor's offices), and assist in resolving payer problems and billing/reimbursement issues. Maintaining patient records and ensuring confidentiality are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, various claim forms, third party contracts and payment patterns, CPT and ICD9 coding, and reimbursement regulations and policies of third-party payers.
  • Ability to relate to diverse age and demographic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of Healthy Start, BCMH, AEMA and Financial Assistance.
  • The ability to do data entry and work a calculator.
  • Problem identification and problem solving skills are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Four years' experience in customer service, required.
  • Two years' experience in medical billing and claims follow-up, required.
  • One year experience working on a mainframe computer.
  • Experience using Outlook, Word and Excel, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree, preferred.

Responsibilities
