Patient Accounting Representative - Dermatology

About The Position

This role is responsible for various aspects of patient accounting within a dermatology practice. Key duties include processing refund requests, managing charge entry and payment posting, handling patient and insurance inquiries, and performing precertification for procedures. The position also involves developing and maintaining policies related to the Compliance Program for Professional Fee Reimbursement and generating various reports.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one year billing experience in a health care organization.
  • Experience and knowledge of the claim denial/accounts receivable process.
  • Working knowledge of Cerner Practice Management software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and processes refund requests.
  • Utilizes electronic and manual systems to identify and capture source documentation for provider charges/claims.
  • Performs data entry for billing and claims functions, including charge entry and payment posting.
  • Answers phone calls and inquiries from patients, insurance carriers, or other parties regarding claims or billing issues.
  • Carries out routine requests for information from practice management systems, billing documents, or supporting documentation.
  • Provides monthly and ad-hoc reports using the practice management system or external reporting solutions.
  • Performs precertification for scheduled procedures and communicates any patient balances due.
  • Works with management to develop, maintain, and follow policies and procedures for the Department’s and Corporation’s Compliance Program for Professional Fee Reimbursement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
