About The Position

The Patient Account Advocate is responsible for gathering accurate financial information from patients admitted to the hospital, including those in the behavioral health unit. This role involves updating patient information, determining eligibility for the hospital's financial assistance program, and managing unpaid accounts. The advocate will also reach out to patients to offer financial aid packets, maintain records, monitor accounts for patients who have filed for bankruptcy, establish recurring payments, and identify accounts of deceased individuals to determine if probate should be filed. Maintaining patient confidentiality is a key aspect of this role.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must adhere to the NRMC appearance and attire policy.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels.
  • Ability to utilize best practice and procedures to assist in the care and wellbeing of patients served.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience.
  • Some knowledge of healthcare billing.
  • Previous experience with bankruptcy/probate.
  • Previous cashier experience.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately gather information from patients admitted to the hospital pertaining to that patient’s finances.
  • Accurately update patient information such as insurance information and/or mailing addresses.
  • Determine and document accounts if a patient qualifies for NRMC’s financial assistance program.
  • Monitor un-paid accounts and mark them for bad debt.
  • Reach out to patients to offer a financial aid packet.
  • Organize and maintain accurate records of financial aide packets.
  • Monitor patient accounts who have filed for bankruptcy and determine if a claim needs filed.
  • Establish reoccurring payments for patients.
  • Identify accounts of deceased individuals and determine if a probate can/should be filed.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
