About The Position

This is a 100% onsite position in Shelby, Michigan. The Patient Access Supervisor is a frontline, department-based role that supervises the daily functions of their assigned department. This role provides clear direction and manages/advances people, processes, structures, and/or programs that support direct/indirect care. The supervisor demonstrates behaviors aligned with the Trinity Health culture and creates/supports comprehensive strategies, measuring progress to achieve desired outcomes. They serve as a technical advisor to the assigned team and leadership, maintaining and exceeding department-specific individual productivity standards, scheduling industry benchmarks, collection targets, and quality audit scores for accuracy and productivity. The term 'patients' refers to patients, clients, residents, participants, customers, or members.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) to Three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Two (2) to Three (3) years’ experience working in a Pre-service or Patient Access operations.
  • Obtain National certification in HFMA CRCR, NAHAM CHAA, and/or NAHAM CHAM required within one (1) year of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office Suite.
  • Patient accounting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily functions of assigned department.

  • Serves as a technical advisor to assigned team and leadership.

  • Responsible for the daily operations and oversight of staff.
  • Works in collaboration with department managers to manage staff and department effectively.
  • Participates in and contributes to the performance management/review process.
  • Implements departmental plans and priorities identified by accountable leaders.
  • May participate and recommend in the hiring and selection process.
  • Responds promptly and directly to meet or exceed customers’ needs.
  • Follows standards of performance and work processes in designated areas.
  • Coordinates staff scheduling and assignment.
  • Reviews and approves administrative functions (time, payroll, expense).

  • Maintains and demonstrates knowledge to successfully supervise each functional area of the hospital including but not limited to all outpatient registration points, emergency room registration, admissions, bed assignment, and financial counseling.
  • Regularly monitors the patient tracking system, registration reports, and financial clearance activities to ensure patients are registered within key performance standards.
  • Supervises colleagues to ensure excellent professional customer service is provided to patients, providers, coworkers, and the community.
  • Monitors daily operations to ensure adherence to documented administrative and departmental policies and procedures, achievement of established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to achieve optimal productivity, accountability, and efficiency, and facilitation of departmental workflow.
  • Monitors all financial clearance activity ensuring all accounts are verified at the time of service and meet medical necessity requirements.
  • Coordinates investigation and appropriate resolution of problems from patient/family or staff complaints.
  • Resolves patient questions regarding payment requirements/charges referred by the registrars.
  • Coordinates daily schedule and staffing to allow for performance of urgent assignments and coverage during peak workload that maximizes patient satisfaction and minimizes delays.
  • Provides operational guidance and support to the assigned team, disseminates policy/procedure updates, and supports coverage of other departmental divisions as required.
