About The Position

Inova Health Center 3580 - Fair Oaks is seeking a dedicated Patient Access Specialist to support oncology services. This is a full-time position scheduled Monday through Friday during regular business hours. The role supports patient access through registration, scheduling, insurance coordination, financial counseling, patient communication, and related administrative and case-management activities. The specialist ensures compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other applicable federal and state regulations, and may perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of patient access experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage complex patient intake and registration cases; resolve errors, confirm authorizations, validate documents, and index documentation.
• Prepare schedules, track records, and use multiple administrative and technology systems efficiently.
• Coordinate documentation and follow up on case-related tasks.
• Assess insurance coverage and initiate financial assistance.
• Apply payer-specific rules, resolve insurance issues, and identify contract limitations.
• Resolve moderate patient concerns and track follow-ups with patients.
• Educate patients about kiosks and report kiosk usage trends.
• Coordinate with departments, tailor communications, and support patients.
• Validate insurance and track referral status.
• Schedule specialty visits and coordinate patient preparation.
• Coordinate transportation for patients with special needs.
• Resolve minor chart issues and assist with release of information (ROI).
• Provide documentation to utilization review (UR) teams.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other applicable federal and state regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
