About The Position

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is seeking a full-time Patient Access Specialist to support Fairfax Hospital and multiple departments at the Inova Center for Personalized Health. The position is scheduled Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The specialist follows Inova Health System’s Service Excellence standards while admitting and scheduling patients, verifying insurance, and providing financial counseling.

The role includes patient intake and registration, documentation management, administrative and technology operations, case coordination, financial counseling, insurance and contract coordination, patient communication, referral validation, specialty scheduling, transportation coordination, and assistance with health information management and utilization review. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of patient access experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage complex patient intake and registration cases; resolve errors, confirm authorizations, validate documents, and index them.
• Prepare schedules, track records, and navigate multiple systems.
• Coordinate documentation and follow up on case-related tasks.
• Assess insurance coverage and initiate financial assistance.
• Apply payer-specific rules, resolve insurance issues, and identify contract limitations.
• Resolve moderate patient concerns and track follow-ups with patients.
• Educate patients about kiosks and report usage trends.
• Coordinate with departments, tailor patient messaging, and support patients.
• Validate insurance and track referral status.
• Schedule specialty visits and coordinate preparation.
• Coordinate transportation for patients with special needs.
• Resolve minor chart issues and assist with release of information (ROI).
• Provide documentation to utilization review (UR) teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
