The Patient Access Specialist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NMHC, adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. This role provides exceptional customer service to patients, establishing a positive first impression of Northwestern Medicine. Responsibilities include collecting patient demographic information, scheduling appointments, performing medical necessity checks, informing patients of financial account issues, completing out-of-pocket estimations, and providing training and education as needed. The specialist will manage their work schedule efficiently, participate in Quality Assurance reviews, and utilize effective service recovery skills. Communication and collaboration are key, involving clear communication with patients regarding referrals and insurance, collecting authorization numbers, and fostering a professional environment for communication across departments. The role also involves using various online systems for order retrieval, insurance eligibility verification, and accurate data entry in Epic. Efficiency, process improvement, and business growth are also emphasized, requiring proactive issue prevention, understanding data requirements for registration, monitoring quality metrics, and suggesting improvements to enhance customer service and operational efficiency. The specialist will also act as a training resource for new staff and adapt to evolving healthcare policies.
