About The Position

Inova Float Pool – Western Region (Inova Loudoun Hospital) is seeking a full-time Patient Access Specialist Sr. The role works Monday through Friday on morning or midday shifts (7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. or 10:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m.) and includes rotations every other weekend. The specialist supports patient access operations across registration, documentation, financial counseling, insurance coordination, referrals, scheduling, transportation, and related administrative workflows. The role also supports escalations, audits records and processes, mentors peers, and ensures compliance with applicable requirements including HIPAA and OSHA. The employee may perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 2 years of patient access experience.
• Must be willing to travel within the posted location.
• Must be available for a flexible schedule, rotating holidays, and every other weekend.

Responsibilities

• Audit patient records and documentation for accuracy, troubleshoot discrepancies, and support escalations.
• Compile reports, troubleshoot system issues, and support peers with administrative and technology operations.
• Audit referrals and support case management escalations.
• Conduct financial reviews and mentor staff in financial counseling.
• Troubleshoot complex insurance cases and educate peers about insurance contract nuances.
• Handle escalated inquiries and patient concerns and analyze trends.
• Analyze kiosk performance and train staff on patient kiosks.
• Handle sensitive patient concerns, audit communication logs, and advocate for patient needs.
• Audit referral workflows and mentor staff.
• Schedule surgeries and verify patient readiness.
• Resolve transportation issues and audit transportation logs.
• Coordinate with Health Information Management on record merges and audit medical record numbers.
• Support escalations related to medical necessity in coordination with Utilization Review.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other applicable federal and state regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
