About The Position

Patient Access Representatives assist patients, clinic staff, or other clinical staff to schedule, pre-register, and register for all services at Adena Health System. They use established interviewing techniques to gather information in person, via EPIC, or by phone. This includes demographic information, insurance, financial details, ensuring correct precertification/authorization, and other information required for billing and collecting patient accounts. The role involves using various electronic tools to verify active insurance coverage and running estimates for patients at each visit or during pre-registration. They are responsible for obtaining required signatures and documents, scanning them into document imaging, and entering diagnosis and tests while checking orders for completeness and medical necessity. This position interacts with clinicians in the ER, outpatient, and clinics to ensure timely patient care. Patient Access Representatives must be self-driven, able to multitask and prioritize, possess strong communication skills, and deal effectively with others. They are team-oriented and contribute to department goals. Additionally, they answer all incoming calls on the hospital switchboard and transfer them as appropriate. This role requires comfort with collecting copays and deductibles at the time of service.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License
  • 6 months experience in a hospital clerical, general clerical or customer service related position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients, clinic staff or other clinical staff to schedule, pre-register, register for all services at Adena Health System.
  • Gather information in person, by accessing EPIC or by phone, including demographic information, insurance, financial, ensuring correct precert/authorization and other information from patients or their representatives required for billing and collecting patient accounts.
  • Use various electronic tools to ensure the patient's insurance coverage is active.
  • Run an estimate on each patient at each visit or over the phone when pre-registering.
  • Obtain required signatures and documents at the time of registration and scan into document imaging.
  • Enter diagnosis, tests and check orders for completeness and medical necessity.
  • Interact with clinicians in the ER, outpatient and clinics to ensure patient care is delivered in a timely manner.
  • Answer all incoming calls on the hospital switchboard and transfer as appropriate.
  • Collect at time of service, copay and deductibles, etc.
