About The Position

Patient Access Representatives assist patients, clinic staff, or other clinical staff to schedule, pre-register, and register for all services at Adena Health System. They use established interviewing techniques to gather information in person, via EPIC, or by phone. This includes demographic information, insurance, financial details, ensuring correct precertification/authorization, and other patient information required for billing and collecting patient accounts. The role involves using various electronic tools to verify insurance coverage, running estimates for each patient visit or during pre-registration, obtaining required signatures and documents, and scanning them into document imaging. Additionally, this position enters diagnosis and tests, checks orders for completeness and medical necessity, and interacts with clinicians to ensure timely patient care. The Patient Access Representative must be self-driven, able to multitask and prioritize, possess strong communication skills, and work effectively with others in a team-oriented environment to achieve department goals. At AGMC, they also answer all incoming calls on the hospital switchboard and transfer them appropriately. Comfort with collecting copays and deductibles at the time of service is also required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License
  • 6 months experience in a hospital clerical, general clerical or customer service related position.

  • Enter diagnosis and tests, and check orders for completeness and medical necessity.
  • Interact with clinicians in the ER, outpatient, and clinics to ensure patient care is delivered in a timely manner.
  • Answer all incoming calls on the hospital switchboard and transfer as appropriate.
  • Collect copay and deductibles at the time of service.
