About The Position

The Patient Access Representative is typically the first point of contact for patients and visitors in various outpatient registration areas. This role requires excellent customer service skills and is accountable for obtaining accurate patient demographic and insurance information to ensure proper reimbursement for the hospital. Financial communication with patients will be handled in a positive and professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Greets customers in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
  • Verifies patient information and ensures patients complete and sign appropriate paperwork.
  • Obtains copies of insurance cards and driver's licenses, and accurately and timely enters/updates patient demographic and insurance information in the computer system.
  • Compiles and maintains all forms and/or documents in the patient's medical record.
  • Maintains the appointment scheduling system, including scheduling, coordinating, and adjusting patient appointments based on patient requests, provider schedules, and system capabilities.
  • Consistently follows the "No-Show" procedure.
  • Completes appointment reminder calls.
  • Answers the telephone promptly, screens calls, takes complete messages including necessary triage information, or routes/transfers calls to the appropriate staff member.
  • Efficiently distributes information to nursing and medical support staff accurately, courteously, and in a timely manner.
  • Consistently collects patient co-pays and outstanding account balances.
  • Prepares office batches and balances patient payments received at the end of each workday.
  • Serves as a liaison between the patient and medical support staff.
  • Communicates with insurance companies for necessary referral information and/or assists patients with scheduling specialist appointments and/or testing.
  • Checks out patients, providing visit-specific information and scheduling future appointments.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly front desk and waiting area.
  • Timely and accurately enters patient clinical information into the EMR as related to assigned tasks associated with PAR/Clinical access.
  • Participates fully as a member of the Patient Centered Medical Home Team.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical, and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
