About The Position

The Patient Access Representative assists patients with the check-in/arrival process. They possess in-depth knowledge of all front desk and arrival processes. This role involves coordinating new patients with physicians, assisting them in collecting medical records and history, and scheduling new patients with specialists. The representative prepares new patient charts for physician review and is responsible for providing insurance information to the Financial Counselor Representative for verification. Excellent communication skills, proficiency in English (speaking, reading, writing), comfort with computers and medical terminology, and in-depth knowledge of all insurance types, including government health programs, are essential.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent or equivalent evidence in file required.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read and write English proficiently.
  • Must be comfortable with computers and medical terminology.
  • In depth knowledge of Cerner, most insurance types, and basic computer programs.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service behavior.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) - If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

Responsibilities

  • Registers and admits patients following appropriate policy, assuring the two patient identifiers “Name and Date of Birth” are used when selecting patients Medical Record.
  • Ensures all patients are checked-in using hospital systems.
  • Obtains complete and accurate patient demographics and financial information and inputs it into the computer system according to standard operating procedures.
  • Ensures all required documents are obtained and scanned at the time of registration.
  • Explains hospital policies regarding insurance benefits, personal items, and valuables.
  • Collects and records patient payments and completes ledgers for all check and cash payments.
  • Ensures MD orders are complete (Test Ordered, Diagnosis, MD Signature).
  • Identifies and selects appropriate language in ADT and obtains and scans correct language documents.
  • Receives patient valuables and places them in the safe according to hospital policy.
  • Ensures all accounts requiring Medical Necessity are performed, and failed tests and Advanced Beneficiary notices are provided to the patient and documented/scanned in hospital systems.
  • Follows the Transfusion Free Policy.
  • Verifies and documents insurance eligibility and confirms and documents benefits.
  • Obtains or assures verification of pre-certifications and authorizations.
  • Utilizes both hospital and professional registration information systems, completing all required fields.
  • Ability to request financial liability.
  • Maintains an Accuracy Score above 89%.
  • Assists Manager/Supervisor with other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Hourly rate range for this position is $22.88 - $35.55.
