About The Position
MaineGeneral Health is seeking a Patient Access Representative to perform financial clearance, patient registration, and clerical duties for point-of-service services and direct and scheduled patient admissions. The role interacts frequently with patients and their families, greeting them, checking them in, and ensuring clinical staff have the information they need. The position works in a team environment with opportunities to learn and grow within the department and organization.
Requirements
- Relevant customer service experience.
- Excellent demonstrated communication skills.
- Ability to keyboard accurately and quickly.

- One year of patient registration, scheduling, or other clerical or customer service experience in a medical office setting.
Responsibilities
- Perform financial clearance, registration, and clerical duties associated with point-of-service services.
- Meet with patients or their caregivers to exchange necessary information and documentation, explain the process, and address questions and concerns.
- Communicate with unit staff and other appropriate personnel to exchange information and determine placement.
- Verify insurance benefits and obtain precertification or authorization; ensure medical necessity is verified as necessary.
- Determine and accept required payments, including copays, deductibles, and coinsurance, or refer patients to financial counselors for follow-up.
- Obtain and accurately and promptly enter necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information into the registration system.
