About The Position

The Patient Access Representative in the Sleep Disorders Center is a full-time role responsible for providing high-level customer service to patients, guarantors, and family members. This position involves accurately gathering and entering patient information into the hospital's computer system to facilitate efficient data collection, billing, and reimbursement. The representative will collaborate with medical staff, nursing, ancillary departments, insurance carriers, and other professionals to assist families with healthcare and financial services. Key functions include operating office equipment, utilizing insurance eligibility software, multitasking in stressful situations, and employing strong interpersonal communication skills. A general understanding of the sleep center's practices is also required.

Requirements

  • 1 year business or medical secretarial curriculum preferred with emphasis in customer service and knowledge of healthcare settings or equivalent of education and job-related experience

Responsibilities

  • Articulate information in a manner that patients, guarantors, and family members can understand while maintaining the highest level of customer service.
  • Accurately gather and enter all information into the hospital’s computer system to expedite efficient data collection, billing, and hospital reimbursement.
  • Work directly with medical staff, nursing, ancillary departments, insurance carriers, and other professionals to assist families in obtaining healthcare and financial services.
  • Operate printers, fax machines, and general office equipment.
  • Utilize insurance eligibility software.
  • Multitask and maintain composure in stressful situations, utilizing appropriate resources.
  • Utilize excellent interpersonal communication skills to effectively and professionally represent the department.
  • Apply knowledge of revenue cycle processes and automated scheduling, registration, collections, and telecommunications applications.
  • Proficiently use computer applications, software, and hardware including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrate general knowledge of the sleep center and its practices.
