This role involves patient registration and scheduling, with duties varying by setting. The Patient Access Representative (PAR) greets patients, verifies demographics, handles paperwork, creates electronic files, and educates patients on necessary forms. They establish financial responsibility, collect payments, and may manage registration work queues to resolve issues like denied claims. In a scheduling capacity, they book appointments, obtain referrals, conduct pre-authorizations, arrange interpreter services, check patients in/out, and offer enrollment to additional resources. They collaborate with the nursing team and providers to coordinate appointments and may manage provider schedules and waitlists. Additional duties can include chart preparation, discussing pre-payment responsibilities, initiating financial assistance, tracking patient visits, health information management, report generation, Telemed coordination, and charge entry/billing. The PAR also serves as a mentor, promotes a respectful atmosphere, and must work both independently and as part of a team. They frequently take direction from the nursing team and must maintain confidentiality. Excellent customer service and empathy are required, along with working knowledge of medical terminology and professional written communication.
