About The Position

Destin Surgery Center is seeking a full-time Patient Access Representative. This role operates within a fast-paced, multi-specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) environment, focusing on delivering high-quality work and patient experiences. The position is under the direction of the Business Office Manager and involves various business office functions including scheduling, insurance verification, collections, reception, patient calls, and chart building. The ideal candidate will excel at multitasking, communication, and teamwork, and demonstrate a history of positive customer service.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of hospital or medical office experience required.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and non-verbally in a professional way.
  • Ability to use time wisely in preparing work area to meet the high-paced demand.
  • Show a genuine desire to work and improve the Surgery Center as a whole.
  • Extreme multi-tasker
  • Strong medical terminology.
  • Must demonstrate excellent phone etiquette and exceptional customer service skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of health care financing and Medical Collections preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies insurance prior to the patient's arrival, including "Add On's" and Direct Admits.
  • Obtains pre-certification from insurance companies for procedures requiring it.
  • Requests office notes from referring physicians if needed for authorization.
  • Calculates and informs patients of the amount due.
  • Communicates with doctor's offices.
  • Ensures all required forms are placed in designated areas of the patient's chart.
  • Daily preparation of charts for the next day's surgeries within the required deadline.
  • Preparation of medical consents for each chart.
  • Labeling necessary documents and adding physician orders.
  • Conducts outbound collection calls to patients regarding their medical invoice/bill, answers questions, and sets up payment/payment plans.
  • Utilizes various collection strategies and methodologies to contact consumers to negotiate payment in full or payment arrangements on debt within federal, state, and client collection guidelines and laws.
  • Knowledge of health care financing and Medical Collections is preferred.
  • Other duties as assigned.
