The role is responsible for front line support to the department, coordinating and performing front line office activities in an effective and efficient manner. This includes greeting and registering incoming patients, supporting the patient check out process, and scheduling future appointments as applicable. PARs are responsible for checking patients in for appointments and accurately verifying demographics, ensuring all check-in procedures are completed and monitoring patient wait times, communicating changes to the patient as necessary. They must read and interpret insurance responses, understand general guidelines and insurance rank requirements to properly assign primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance per encounter. Additionally, they ensure patients receive necessary disclosure and privacy information, obtain necessary legal and financial signatures, communicate financial obligations to patients, and collect fees at time of service as appropriate. PARs communicate the purpose of and complete all necessary regulatory forms with patients, and complete patient visits by scheduling any necessary follow-up appointments, including specialty or ancillary services. They process multi-channel messages related to patient and/or physician requests regarding appointments, referrals, prescriptions, and complaints. They notify patients or guarantors of anticipated financial responsibility, including copays, deductibles, or coinsurances and collect accordingly. The role also involves performing cash posting following department guidelines, abiding by organizational and HIPAA guidelines, privacy practices, patient confidentiality and patient rights, and independently working work queues to ensure timely resolution of all accounts. Maintaining productivity and quality performance expectations, and a high regard for confidentiality are essential. PARs accurately perform medical record maintenance and releases, assist with referrals and pre-certifications at the time of encounter, and properly utilize and maintain patient recall and reschedule lists.
