The Patient Access Representative (PAR) plays a crucial role in greeting patients, verifying demographics, creating electronic files, and ensuring accurate registration and scheduling. They also handle financial responsibilities, collect payments, and may manage registration work queues to resolve issues. In scheduling, they coordinate appointments, obtain referrals, conduct pre-authorizations, and manage provider schedules. Additional duties can include chart preparation, financial assistance discussions, health information management, report generation, Telemed coordination, and reminder calls. The PAR also serves as a mentor, displays professionalism, works both independently and as part of a team, and maintains confidentiality. Excellent customer service, empathy, and a working knowledge of medical terminology are essential.
