About The Position

As a Patient Access Representative with Sentara, you will be responsible for all aspects of the patient registration process. This includes verifying patient identity, selecting the correct patient record, reviewing schedules and physician orders to register patients for appropriate services, and scanning important documents such as insurance cards, IDs, Living Wills, and POAs. You will also verify and enter patient demographic and insurance information into the electronic health record. During registration, the Patient Access Representative will explain and complete complex regulatory and compliance documents, adhering to all applicable privacy and compliance standards. They are also responsible for explaining and collecting co-payments, deposits, and outstanding balances securely. Often the first point of contact, the Patient Access Representative greets patients and families, answers questions, and ensures patients arrive at the correct service area on time. Additionally, they may perform scheduling, pre-admission, and discharge duties, and provide supervision and patient information updates to families in waiting rooms.

Requirements

  • High School Grad or Equivalent
  • 2 years of Customer Service and/or Data Entry experience
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Lieu of two years of experience
  • Proficiency in Keyboarding

Responsibilities

  • Verify the patient identity and select the correct patient record
  • Review schedules and physician orders to register the patient for the appropriate service
  • Scan important documents such as insurance cards, ID's, Living Wills, and POAs
  • Verify and enter the patient's demographic and insurance information in the electronic health record
  • Explain and complete complex regulatory and compliance documents
  • Adhere to all applicable privacy and compliance standards
  • Explain and collect co-payments, deposits, and outstanding balances and perform the transactions securely
  • Greet patients and families, answer questions, and ensure the patients arrive to the appropriate service area at the right time
  • Perform scheduling, pre-admission, and discharge duties (may also)
  • Provide supervision and patient information updates to families in waiting rooms (may also)
