About The Position

The Patient Access Representative is responsible for pre-registration, registration and admission functions for Mercy Medical Center Emergency Department. This role involves verifying insurance requirements, responsible for upfront collections, co-pays and high deductibles, and ensuring that all entries concerning demographic, financial and advanced directives are accurate. The representative will also collect non-covered fees, input data into the Meditech system, and complete all phases of the registration process, including other papers, patient bracelet, patient rights, and Health Care Proxy info. Additionally, this role coordinates bed assignment for all patients and maintains death books and releases information to funeral homes.

Requirements

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent, college preferred.
Medical terminology skills.
Relevant medical office, hospital / physicians billing or patient registration experience preferred.
Excellent customer service, verbal communication and interpersonal skills required.

Responsibilities

Verify insurance requirements
Responsible for upfront collections, co-pays and high deductibles
Ensure that all entries concerning demographic, financial and advanced directives are accurate
Collect non-covered fees
Inputs data into Meditech system
Complete all phases of registration process, (i.e.) other papers, patient bracelet, patient rights, Health Care Proxy info etc
Coordinate bed assignment for all patients and maintains death books and releases information to funeral homes
