About The Position

This position exists to provide services for non-English speaking patients and family members. This position also exists to assure compliance with ADA and to provide equal access to people with all levels of abilities. The patient access medical interpreter role also answers incoming telephone calls and directs patients and visitors appropriately to all points of care. The position schedules appointments and interviews patients for appropriate medical information. Translation Interprets English for Spanish or Burmese patients and their families remotely by phone or video. Serves as a liaison between non-English speaking communities and the organization Health. Responds to concerns regarding language interpreting and communication for patients and their families. Patient Care Provides support such as financial screening, answering telephones, and/or making appointments as needed. Apply a minimum of one health literacy method when communicating with patients/clients. Supportive Services Conduct confidential and anonymous rapid HIV testing, work in conjunction with the HIV Services Team to promote and expand the delivery of PrEP services within HealthNet and through community outreach, counseling, testing and referrals. Conduct confidential and anonymous rapid HIV testing utilizing all available methods in clinical and non-clinical settings, in accordance with state guidelines. Distribute approved education materials and safer sex materials to persons engaging in high-risk behaviors. Conduct one-on-one educational sessions and non-medical assessments with clients, to include referrals for internal and external services (e.g.,PrEP, HIV medical care, primary, dental, and behavioral health care, benefit and entitlement navigation assistance, housing, employment, etc.). Practice infection control measures in accordance with OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standards. Requirements

  • Currently not sponsoring work visa.
  • Requires knowledge and experience translating Spanish or Burmese in a medical setting.
  • Requires High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be or be willing to be certified in translation.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Requires knowledge and cultural understanding of the community served.
  • Requires ability to focus on patient needs.
  • Requires ability to accurately collect patient information.
  • Requires familiarity and operating knowledge of designated equipment and supplies.
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills/abilities to relate to people with respect for their individuality and privacy.
  • Requires computer experience utilizing Microsoft products.
  • Must be able to read, write, hear, and communicate effectively in the English language by both orally and written.

  • Additional experience with Electronic Medical Record systems preferred.
