About The Position

Riverside Healthcare is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Patient Access Healthcare Associate III to join our team in Kankakee, Illinois. The Patient Access Healthcare Associate III will be responsible for ensuring seamless patient registration, verifying insurance coverage, and maintaining compliance with Medicare/Medicaid regulations. This role requires exceptional customer service skills, proficiency in phlebotomy and EKG tracings, and the ability to manage a fast-paced environment independently and demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure. The ideal candidate will project a mature, compassionate demeanor while effectively navigating the hospital's revenue cycle and providing a concierge-style patient experience.

Requirements

  • Experience in a healthcare setting with a focus on patient access, registration, or insurance verification.
  • Phlebotomy experience and knowledge of EKG tracings preferred.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and healthcare software.
  • Strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Computer literate.
  • Spelling accuracy and the ability to perform general arithmetic are essential.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, with a commitment to accuracy and problem-solving.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately collect, analyze, and record all necessary demographic, insurance/financial, and clinical data for scheduling, pre-registering, and registering patients from all payer classes. Ensure that all information is entered into the system promptly and correctly.
  • Perform thorough verification of patient insurance coverage, including Medicare and Medicaid, ensuring compliance with payer requirements for medical necessity and precertification. Complete third-party eligibility and benefit verification to secure accurate payment.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service with a compassionate, concierge-style approach. Interact with patients and their representatives to address their needs, explain hospital revenue cycle policies, and resolve payment issues.
  • Perform phlebotomy, process drop-off specimens, and conduct routine EKG tracings. Ensure accurate labeling, storage, and transport of specimens according to laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and distribute required forms, documents, and reports, including medical record forms and labels. Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with EMTALA, HIPAA, and other relevant regulations.
  • Manage patient flow in ambulatory care, pre-op testing, and clinics. Provide pre-test instructions, assist with documentation, and ensure proper preparation for tests and procedures.
  • Analyze patient data and hospital resources to determine financial responsibilities and resolve issues related to registration and insurance. Ensure accurate documentation of financial expectations and medical necessity verification.
  • Assist in the training of new personnel and support other healthcare staff as needed. Attend all advanced registration classes and mandatory department meetings.
  • Perform moderately complex laboratory testing using Sysmex Hematology Instrument and Piccolo Chemistry Instrument. Conduct Point of Care testing, including Complete Blood Count, Comprehensive Metabolic Panel, and INR finger sticks, ensuring specimen integrity and reporting critical values.
  • Sort and distribute mail and faxes.
  • Conduct reminder calls for patient appointments and pre-register scheduled patients.
  • Manage patient transportation within the hospital and assist with securing external transportation.
  • Assist with community health screenings, employee health physicals, and other departmental needs.
  • Confirm specimen acceptability and ensure accurate collection and delivery.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, take vital signs, and assist with procedures and diagnostic tests as needed.
  • Maintain logs of patients and procedures and perform other duties as assigned.
