About The Position

The Financial Counselor functions as the financial liaison for patients. Their role is to aid patients in obtaining and maintaining any available funding assistance for their treatment as well as ensure collection of the patient’s financial responsibility. The Financial Counselor is responsible for monitoring the patient’s account throughout their therapy to maintain low outstanding balances and ensure enrollment in assistance programs.

Requirements

  • 1 year of healthcare experience or customer service experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficient at partner programs (i.e.: MS Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to cope with ambiguous, changing environment while under pressure in a calm manner.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and develop productive and cooperative working relationships with all members of the Palmetto Infusion team.
  • Knowledge of Insurance Terms, such as: copay, coinsurances, and deductions.

Responsibilities

  • Provides timely acceptance and completion of referrals.
  • Accurately calculates and quotes patient pay responsibility through coordination of benefits, evaluating copay structures, and completing a comprehensive insurance benefits summary review.
  • Monitors and coordinates collection of patient payments.
  • Aids patients in the enrollment and re-enrollment process for copay or grant assistance programs.
  • Monitors funding resources and on-going patient eligibility in assistance programs.
  • Evaluate patients’ eligibility for free-drug or ship-in drugs.
  • Assists with obtaining financial hardship information for evaluation.
  • Performs financial call to new or established patients.
  • Ensures appropriate documents are up to date and present in patient’s medical record.
  • Completes Insurance Benefit Summaries (IBS) and forwards to appropriate clinic locations/staff.
  • Completes Advance Beneficiary Notices (ABN) when required and explains to patient why it is required.
  • Participates in the orientation of other staff as requested.
  • Utilizes the EMR software exclusively for the purposes of communicating and documenting patient information.
  • Takes initiative to present ideas and suggestions for process improvements to the team lead, supervisors, and management.
  • Maintain knowledge and proficiency in medical practices through continuing education, staff meetings, and workshops.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
