About The Position

Join Nebraska Medicine as a Frontline Team Member Connecting Patients and Visitors to Extraordinary Care! This is an in-person role requiring face-to-face interaction with patients and the public. The Patient Access Associate serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, enforcing visitation policies, verifying employee badges, managing vendor access, confirming patient appointments in the electronic health record, confirming inpatient room numbers, and providing wayfinding and escorting support. The role operates in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, requiring the completion of computer-based worklists and follow-up tasks. Cross-training and floating to other desks may be necessary. Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six months of hire required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).
  • Ability to work in a proactive self-directed manner required.
  • Multi-tasking and problem solving abilities required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to form and maintain working relationships within the organization to foster a team environment required.
  • Ability to deal with difficult or challenging customer interactions and escalate to leadership as appropriate required.
  • Must be able to fully commit to three consecutive weeks of full-time, daytime training when the start date is scheduled.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with customers or patients preferred.
  • Experience with general office materials/equipment preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors.
  • Enforce visitation policies, verify employee badges, and manage vendor access.
  • Verify patient appointments in the electronic health record.
  • Confirm inpatient room numbers to assist visitors.
  • Provide wayfinding and escorting support.
  • Greet patients, customers, and staff in a professional, timely, and efficient manner.
  • Screen those entering the organization efficiently to promote safety.
  • Exceed customer expectations and comply with all state and federal regulations and laws throughout processes of appointment confirmation, visitor validation, patient way finding/escorting, mask distribution and symptom screening.
  • Complete items related to patient registration and other assigned Revenue Cycle tasks in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Provide coverage for days and evening hours, 7 days a week including holidays with needs in various areas throughout the organization.
  • Perform face-to-face patient contact.
