About The Position

Join Nebraska Medicine as a Frontline Team Member Connecting Patients and Visitors to Extraordinary Care! This is an in-person role requiring face-to-face interaction with patients and the public. The Patient Access Associate serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, enforcing visitation policies, verifying employee badges, managing vendor access, confirming patient appointments in the electronic health record, and providing wayfinding and escorting support. Performance expectations include working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, meeting productivity and quality expectations, and cross-training to float to other desks as needed. The role involves ensuring patients, customers, and staff are greeted professionally and efficiently, screening those entering the organization to promote safety while exceeding customer expectations and complying with regulations. Duties also include completing patient registration items and other assigned Revenue Cycle tasks, with coverage required for days, evenings, and holidays in various areas throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six months of hire required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).
  • Ability to work in a proactive self-directed manner required.
  • Multi-tasking and problem solving abilities required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to form and maintain working relationships within the organization to foster a team environment required.
  • Ability to deal with difficult or challenging customer interactions and escalate to leadership as appropriate required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with customers or patients preferred.
  • Experience with general office materials/equipment preferred.
  • Depending on the position available, fluency in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors.
  • Enforce visitation policies, verify employee badges, and manage vendor access.
  • Verify patient appointments in the electronic health record.
  • Confirm inpatient room numbers to assist visitors.
  • Provide wayfinding and escorting support.
  • Work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Meet productivity and quality expectations by completing computer-based worklists and follow-up tasks.
  • Cross-train and float to other desks as needed.
  • Ensure patients, customers and staff are greeted in a professional, timely and efficient manner.
  • Screen those entering the organization efficiently to promote the safety of all patients, employees and providers while exceeding customer expectations and complying with all state and federal regulations and laws.
  • Complete items related to patient registration and other assigned Revenue Cycle tasks in accordance to policy and procedure.
  • Provide coverage for days and evening hours, 7 days a week including holidays with needs in various areas throughout the organization.
  • Face to face patient contact required.
