About The Position

Under the direction of the Surgical Pathologists, this individual assumes responsibility for performing the activities needed for the evaluation, examination, description and gross dissection of biopsies and small surgical specimens. Accurately and efficiently accession cases into the laboratory information system (LIS). Ensure that specimen container(s), requisition and cassettes match for patient identification and specimen site. Resolve discrepancies prior to gross examination. Photograph all pertinent gross specimens, as needed. Assist in cutting and staining frozen sections and other duties, as assigned. Maintain a clean and organized working environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree and the requisite courses to meet CLIA requirements for moderate to high complexity testing
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a highly organized manner with particular attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with intra and extra-departmental employees, physicians and their staff.
  • Faculty to maintain a professional, calm and focused demeanor during stressful situations.
  • Progressive analytical skills and ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems that may adversely affect test performance or result performance.
  • Ability to accurately type 20 words per minute.
  • Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  • At least three (3) months of on-the-job training with deemed competency by the Division Head required.

  • Some healthcare experience is a plus.
  • Have an aptitude for leadership and supervisory capabilities.
