The Pathology Grossing Technician is responsible for the preparation, gross inspection, documentation, and histologic processing of laboratory specimen. This role involves preparing and grossly inspecting small biopsies and polyps, documenting receipt of cytology specimens, and recording detailed gross examination findings and specimen counts accurately. The technician will prepare small biopsy specimens for histologic processing, exercise good judgment and scientific protocols when handling tissue samples, and work with histological processing equipment following established protocols. Maintaining an organized and safe work environment, ensuring specimen integrity and diagnostic viability, and conducting quality checks are key aspects of this position. The role also requires successful navigation of the laboratory information system (LIS), providing appropriate disposal of biological and hazardous waste, identifying and reporting problems, supporting inventory management, and maintaining lab equipment. Participation in continuing education and adherence to all CLIA, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements are also essential.
