About The Position

Join MD Anderson’s Surgical Pathology team as a Pathology Referral Specialist and play a vital role in ensuring complex pathology cases move accurately and efficiently through the diagnostic and biomarker testing process. You’ll organize and review pathology materials and documentation from internal and external sources, identify what is needed to move each case forward, and coordinate with clinicians, pathologists, laboratories, and other teams to support timely patient care. This role gives you the opportunity to develop specialized knowledge of pathology case processing, diagnostic review, and biomarker testing while working with cases from a variety of internal and external sources, including international cases. You’ll use your attention to detail and problem-solving skills to review pathology reports, identify the appropriate subspecialty service, resolve discrepancies, obtain missing information or materials, and accurately document case activity within multiple systems. You’ll also serve as an important communication link for internal and external customers, providing timely and professional support through email and telephone interactions. By monitoring worklists and pending cases, coordinating the transfer of materials, and helping ensure turnaround-time expectations are met, you’ll help keep cases moving to the appropriate next step while ensuring materials are properly archived or returned when no longer needed.
