About The Position

VARITE is seeking a qualified Pathobiology Contractor for an onsite role in Foster City, CA. This is an 18-month contract position with a possible extension. The role involves supporting drug discovery and development within the Pathobiology Group, which provides laboratory support throughout Sciences. The candidate will collaborate with internal research groups and external collaborators to identify and validate drug targets in oncology, fibrosis, virology, and inflammation. The work will focus on tissue-based endpoints to investigate efficacy, method of action, and potential therapeutic targets. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, possess excellent organizational and communication skills, manage multiple priorities under tight timelines, thrive with responsibility, and be a proficient team player.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in IHC, including method development.
  • Background in biology or a related discipline.
  • Laboratory experience in human and animal tissue preparation and image scanning.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to troubleshoot independently.
  • Ability to use both strategic and tactical thinking effectively.
  • Curiosity-driven engagement in scientific problems.
  • Ability to manage more than one project at any given time.
  • Ability to work successfully in a cross-functional and highly collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to a variety of audiences in both speech and writing.
  • BS degree and 8+ years of relevant experience or an MS degree with 6+ years of experience.
  • Work history demonstrating direct participation in drug discovery and target identification/validation in oncology, fibrosis, inflammation, and virology research by IHC and other histological techniques.
  • Necessary technical skills include IHC method-development protocols, tissue handling, and organized data entry.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multiplex IHC assays is a plus, but not necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Optimization and/or validation of antibody reagents for IHC and CISH.
  • Identification and implementation of process improvements in IHC and other histological techniques.
  • Development of tissue-based assays.
  • Planning, executing, and troubleshooting experiments to support drug candidate projects.
  • Working cross-functionally within the organization to achieve goals.
  • Presenting research findings and recommendations to senior staff.
  • Identifying new technologies to increase throughput or enhance understanding of disease mechanisms.
