About The Position

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree
Valid teaching certification (or eligibility)
Demonstrated commitment to educational equity
Experience working with middle school students
Strong classroom management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication

Responsibilities

Designs and facilitates engaging elective courses that prepare students for success in high school and beyond
Implements curriculum aligned to college and career readiness competencies
Incorporates project-based learning and authentic performance tasks
Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
Integrates literacy, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving into daily instruction
Uses formative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction
Maintains high academic expectations while creating an engaging classroom culture
Builds a classroom environment grounded in DC Scholars’ PATH Values
Teaches, reinforces, and celebrates positive student behaviors
Fosters student voice and leadership
Supports restorative practices and relationship building
Maintains consistent routines and procedures
Creates an inclusive environment where every scholar feels known, challenged, and supported
Communicates regularly with families regarding student growth and progress
Shares celebrations and areas for continued development
Partners with caregivers to support students’ transition to high school
Participates actively in Professional Development
Attends weekly team meetings
Collaborates with grade-level teachers to reinforce executive functioning skills across content areas
