About The Position

Clarivate is seeking a Patent Classification Specialist to join its Patent Search and Innovation Intelligence Services Team. The specialist determines appropriate application classifications under the Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) system and United States Patent Classification System (USPC), using technical knowledge, research, and automated tools. The role offers training and mentorship in a friendly, relaxed, team-oriented environment with an independently driven workflow. This is a full-time, permanent hybrid position requiring work in a Clarivate U.S. office 2–3 days per week. Listed office locations are Philadelphia, Kansas City, Ann Arbor, Alexandria, and Tempe.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
Completed at least one science- or engineering-based internship.
1–2 years of work experience performing research through work, internships, or volunteering.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Must have resided in the U.S. for the past two consecutive years.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience with intellectual property is highly desirable.
Ability to work independently without excessive supervision on a computer workstation for 7.5 hours per day.
Ability to use computer systems to perform research and classification operations.
Ability to work independently to meet defined production and quality standards.

Responsibilities

Master the patent classification process.
Assign classifications in accordance with Cooperative Patent Classification rules and definitions.
Classify applications related to specific technologies.
Continually expand knowledge and expertise into new technologies.
Work closely with others in a team environment.
