About The Position

Eckert Seamans is a full-service national law firm with a strong reputation and history of success that spans more than 65 years. With approximately 300 lawyers across a network of 14 offices, we provide clients with proactive, solution-oriented business and litigation counsel. We are seeking an experienced Patent Agent or Patent Associate for our Pittsburgh, PA office. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, as well as coordinating patent prosecution in foreign jurisdictions. Candidates should have experience conducting inventor interviews, drafting patent applications, responding to Office Actions, and advising clients on patent strategy and intellectual property protection. The successful candidate will be able to independently manage a variety of patent matters while collaborating effectively with inventors, in-house counsel, and client teams. Strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and written communication skills are essential.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications
  • USPTO registration required
  • Degree in electrical engineering strongly preferred
  • Candidates with degrees in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related fields will also be considered
  • Candidates with a Mechanical Engineering background should have substantial experience involving electrical technologies
  • Exceptional writing, analytical, and technical communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to independently manage a variety of active patent matters while collaborating effectively with clients and colleagues

Nice To Haves

  • five (5)+ years preferred experience
  • Experience conducting inventor interviews, responding to Office Actions, and managing patent portfolios preferred
  • Prior law firm experience preferred
