About The Position

The PAS Specialist position at Family Medicine East Portland is responsible for providing excellent customer service, scheduling appointments, checking patients in and out, verifying demographics and insurance, screening for financial eligibility, answering phone calls, collecting payments and paperwork, monitoring and routing messages, assisting with back-up duties, attending meetings, ensuring a clean environment, and performing other assigned duties. This role operates in a busy environment with frequent interruptions and demands, requiring the ability to manage multiple tasks and interactions effectively.

Requirements

  • Six months of work experience in a medical office setting with high-volume direct patient contact OR one year of work experience in a high-volume direct public contact position.
  • Basic computer keyboarding skills including typing of 30 - 45 wpm.
  • Successful completion of a formal OHSU Administrative Internship Program will substitute for one year of experience. Contact Compensation for confirmation of eligibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in business or other health care related field.
  • Previous family practice experience.
  • Previous experience working in a low-income clinic (Federally qualified health center or rural health center).
  • Previous experience with culturally diverse patients.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors, verify demographic and insurance information, and ensure EPIC patient information matches.
  • Screen patients for issues like bed bugs and check them in using EPIC.
  • Collect co-payments, pre-payments, and patient payments on account, and balance money collected.
  • Provide patients with necessary forms (health history, release of information, etc.) and keep them informed of delays.
  • Check patients out using EPIC, print after-visit summaries, and schedule return appointments.
  • Accurately schedule various types of appointments in EPIC, noting the reason for the visit and scheduling interpreters when needed.
  • Answer phone calls promptly, greet callers, answer questions, take messages, and schedule appointments.
  • Warmly transfer calls as appropriate and use EPIC in-basket to route messages.
  • Attend to EPIC in-basket management according to protocol.
  • Perform back-up duties as assigned.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workspace, including cleaning the lobby and restrooms as needed.
  • Notify lead/manager of malfunctioning equipment, safety concerns, or biohazard issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
