About The Position

The Medical Receptionist position at Richmond includes scheduling appointments, checking patients in and out, verifying demographics and insurance, answering phone calls, collecting payments, handling paperwork, assisting with back-up duties (cross-trained to cover referrals, billing, eligibility, medical records, etc.), attending meetings, ensuring a clean environment, and performing other assigned duties. The role involves changing positions throughout the day, standing on various surfaces, sitting, twisting, walking, climbing stairs, and potentially lifting/carrying objects up to 50 pounds. The position also requires assisting with patient transportation and repositioning of adult patients, as well as bending and reaching.

Requirements

  • Six months of work experience in a medical office setting, including high volume direct patient contact OR one year of work experience in a high volume direct public contact position.
  • Basic computer keyboarding skills including typing of 30 - 45 wpm.
  • Basic computer skills (EPIC, MS office - excel and word).

Responsibilities

  • Greeting patients and visitors.
  • Verifying demographic and insurance information.
  • Ensuring patient information in EPIC matches.
  • Verifying and assisting with completion of financial and medical forms.
  • Screening patients.
  • Checking patients in using EPIC.
  • Notifying if a patient is late for their appointment.
  • Collecting co-payments, pre-payments, and patient payments on account.
  • Balancing money collected.
  • Handing out necessary forms.
  • Keeping patients informed of delays.
  • Checking patients out using EPIC.
  • Printing after-visit summaries.
  • Scheduling return appointments accurately in EPIC for various appointment types.
  • Noting the reason for the patient's visit.
  • Scheduling interpreters when needed.
  • Giving appointment card reminders.
  • Thanking patients and encouraging survey completion.
  • Rescheduling appointments when providers are unavailable.
  • Answering phone calls, greeting callers, answering questions, and taking messages.
  • Warmly transferring calls as appropriate.
  • Using EPIC in-basket for messages and routing them accurately.
  • Using Aux codes and after-call work appropriately.
  • Answering calls in succession and when queues light up.
  • Performing back-up duties as assigned.
  • Working on quality improvement projects and making recommendations.
  • Participating in medical home projects.
  • Attending mandatory meetings and trainings.
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly workspace.
  • Cleaning the lobby and restrooms as needed.
  • Notifying lead/manager of malfunctioning equipment.
  • Notifying lead/manager of safety concerns or biohazard issues.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
