About The Position

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking an experienced Parts, Materials, and Processes Engineer (Engineering Specialist - Microelectronics / Semiconductor Engineering) to join the Parts, Materials & Processes Department (PMPD) within the Mission Payloads Division (MPD). This role will support NASA GFE Flight Projects and NASA Programs, focusing on PM&P management. The PMPD is comprised of subject matter experts in electrical, electronic, and electromechanical (EEE) parts procurement, qualification, application, and root cause failure analysis, as well as materials and processes. The department utilizes a sophisticated in-house electronic component laboratory to provide innovative analysis and PM&P program management capabilities to national space systems and civil customers. The selected candidate will work full-time on-site at our facility in Houston, TX.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in materials science, electrical engineering, physics, or another appropriate discipline.
  • Eight or more years of demonstrated growth and proficiency in PMP Management and applicable requirements and standards (AEC-Q, NASA and/or national security space).
  • Excellent record of customer communication and interaction.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% domestically/internationally, averaged over time.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a secret clearance (US citizenship required to obtain security clearance).

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree from an accredited university in materials science, electrical engineering, physics, or another appropriate discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess AEC-Q or non-MIL PRF parts and develop appropriate methods for use in space and related high-reliability applications.
  • Hold an active TS/SSBI security clearance.
  • Proficiency in common root cause analysis tools during problem resolution.
  • Experience collaborating with contractors, industry working groups, and/or associations such as NASA Electronics Parts Assurance Group, Defense Logistics Agency, Joint Electron Device Engineering Council, Automotive Electronics Council, during the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of active electronic parts for space-related applications.
  • Possess project management skills in applications such as MS Project, Jira, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting PM&P program management functions, considering application, standardization, technology (new and aging), system reliability, maintainability, supportability, and cost in designing or selecting PM&P.
  • Addressing availability, logistics support, Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS), and legacy issues in supporting systems throughout their life cycle.
  • Validating PM&P selection, screening/testing, and qualification based on requirements/specifications.
  • Verifying program approved PM&P lists.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Optimizing the bill of materials (BOM) to balance cost and quality.
  • May lead cross-organizational teams and organize interfaces within the department.
  • Collaborating with industry colleagues and component supplier personnel to create/maintain guidance and requirements related to selection, screening, qualification, and root cause failure analysis.
  • Acting as the organization’s designated representative at technical meetings, presentations, and workshops.
  • May mentor less experienced staff and serve as a role model.
