About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Parts and Warehouse – Eastern Canada, the Inventory Specialist is responsible for optimizing parts inventory management across the Toromont Material Handling branch network. The role plays a strategic part in improving inventory turnover, service level performance, and distribution network efficiency, while supporting and influencing branches in the day to day management of their operations and inventories. The incumbent acts as a subject matter expert in inventory planning, emergency orders, stocking strategies, excess returns, obsolescence management, and the introduction of new products (NPI).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Engineering (Industrial Engineering) or equivalent or College diploma or relevant post‑secondary education combined with 5 years of experience in heavy equipment parts management or related fields.
  • Significant experience in parts management, supply chain operations, purchasing, or inventory control.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (essential).
  • Solid understanding of statistical inventory planning methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
  • High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Strong autonomy while remaining an effective contributor within cross‑functional teams.
  • Excellent customer service skills, demonstrating professionalism, courtesy, and respect in interactions with internal and external customers and partners.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, optimize, and maintain appropriate inventory levels to improve stock turnover and customer service levels.
  • Define and recommend inventory management strategies to enhance the effectiveness of the distribution network.
  • Reduce inventory obsolescence through elimination, redistribution, or rationalization of stock across branches.
  • Review and process quarterly or semi‑annual excess inventory returns to suppliers, ensuring accuracy of customer and supplier records.
  • Process replenishment orders with suppliers based on network requirements.
  • Manage daily customer emergency orders by sourcing from suppliers or leveraging internal stock.
  • Provide estimated delivery dates (ETAs) for delayed orders and recommend alternative sourcing solutions when required.
  • Work closely with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams
  • Support, advise, and influence branches in the management of parts operations and inventory.
  • Develop and implement parts inventory strategies during New Product Introductions (NPI).
  • Act as a point of reference for inventory planning best practices.
  • Maintain accurate parts pricing in the company operating system
  • Apply statistical inventory planning methods (lot sizing, reorder points, safety stock levels, etc.) to support decision‑making.
