About The Position

The Recreation Specialist - Events & Operations is a part-time position responsible for supporting the planning, development, implementation, marketing, coordination, setup, execution, and breakdown of City-sponsored special events and recreation programs. This position plays a key operational role in ensuring the successful delivery of community events and recreation center operations through field operations, logistics, public engagement, sponsorship support, and enforcement of policies and procedures. Responsibilities include operational support, program oversight, participant and customer service support, maintaining participation and revenue records, assisting with budget implementation, and supporting daily recreation center operations as assigned. In addition to special event responsibilities, this position supports the daily operations of the C.K. Ray Recreation Center by assisting with customer service, facility supervision, program support, front desk operations, and general recreation center functions as needed to support departmental operations and maintain scheduled part-time hours throughout the year.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience planning and implementing recreational activities.
  • Current Certification in First Aid, CPR and AED certification or be able to obtain within one (1) month of hire.
  • Ability to follow direction as well as work independently when needed.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to serve in a lead role during special events and operational activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism in public-facing environments.
  • Ability to exhibit excellent customer service skills and the ability to interact directly with the public using good communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate designated programs and events.
  • Independent thinking is required under general supervision.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Canva, Publisher, Power Point, and Outlook; able to learn and use applicable web-based programs (i.e., ActiveNet, When to Work, Kronos) and others as needed.
  • Must pass background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening as a condition of employment.
  • A motor vehicle record check and job-related doctor's physical exam may also be required.
  • Safety-sensitive positions remain subject to random drug and alcohol testing after hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 30 hours of continuing education; preferably recreation, education, or human services.
